Once again, the lovely and sassy girls of Little Mix have found their way into my playlist.
As usual, I was just chillaxing in a cab with a friend of mine and we were on our way home from the mall. The radio suddenly played a very upbeat song with some vaguely familiar powerful vocals. While listening to it, there was a nagging feeling in the back of my mind. I knew I had heard that song before. I just couldn’t put my finger to it. And, once again, I had no idea who sang it or what its title was.
As a music enthusiast, of course, I wouldn’t stop until I find this LSS-worthy song. I felt like I was Liam Neeson in “Taken”. I will find this song and I will download it and I will listen to it again and again and again.
I had my suspicions since the voice sounded a bit familiar. My first suspect was Selena Gomez. But then I realized it’s a girl group because there was more than one voice. So yeah, it’s either Little Mix or Fifth Harmony. I was so over the moon when I realized that it was none other than Little Mix! Not that I dislike Fifth Harmony, but I’m still not over Little Mix’s “Secret Love Song”, so… yeah.
Anyway, watching the music video for “Hair” was just so much fun. It felt like I was watching my sisters (from another mother... and country) having my dream sleepover, which has lots of dancing, singing, gossiping, giggling, drinking, cute and sexy sleepwear and, of course, PIZZA! Although, I found it hard to believe that the girls could devour four boxes of pizza in one night. I mean, come on, let's be real.
Moving on...
From the moment I heard the first few lines of the song, I immediately thought of the whole Perrie-Zayn breakup. Who wouldn't? This delightful and bubbly song is all about helping a girlfriend get her irksome ex-boyfriend out of her “hair”. And, hell yeah, there was definitely LOTS of hair in the music video. Big, bouncy and fluffy hair.
According to songfacts.com, “While it was written way before band member Perrie Edwards' split from Zayn Malik, the timing of its release as a promotional single coincided with the news that the couple had called off their engagement. As a result, many believed the song was putting the ex-One Direction singer in his place.”
Pop singer Sean Paul added a little bit of rap at the start of the song’s new version, which was released as Little Mix’s “Get Weird” album’s fourth radio single back in April.
I can’t say I can relate to the song’s lyrics but I just love the beat and the melody. All the hair-flipping and chatting and hilarious facial expressions (especially the eye roll and the RBF) were just too enjoyable and relatable. The music video kind of made me miss my girlfriends.
This tell-off anthem for all the girlfriends and "sistahs" out there (along with its fun-filled music video) symbolized what I love the most about Little Mix – GIRL POWER! Now I really MUST listen to their albums.
