Have you ever looked back on your past and thought “I wish I wasn’t like that”? In the present you feel liked a changed person and you just wish that everyone around you would just accept you for who you are now. Well that’s not to say that Mumford and Sons are going through that exact situation. There is no doubt that they still love their older music, being both the albums Sigh No More and Babel. The only issue that might come into play is the criticism that they might receive for completely changing their music style. People viewed them as the folk styled band, not the electric rockers that they project themselves to be today. Well I say screw those people who think that, music is about freedom, not adhering to whatever the people want.
This past year the band has been promoting their new album “Wilder Mind” on tour throughout the world. I haven’t been able to catch a show yet but I have watched most of the live performances online. The band always opens up with the song “Snake Eyes” which is one of their most electric songs on the album and a crowd favorite. The next song up is, most of the time, is one of their most popular songs “I Will Wait”. It’s as if they are making a statement to the audience that yes they want to change a bit but also embrace their past.
I have to admit, it is a little bit of a strange transition when playing a very electric song to switching to a completely acoustic one. I feel like in the future they might struggle a bit with the live performances just because of the variation of music, but that shouldn’t hold them back from making it. I think that all their stuff is simply amazing, it’s beautiful music with even prettier lyrics. Looking forward to what they come out with next!
