The band Mumford and Sons are known for their "acoustic madness" as I like to call it. The band has realesed three albums; Sigh No More, Babel, and Wilder Mind (in that order). In their first two albums they were taking the stance of folk musicians that mixed a little bit of electric guitar into their music. 'Sigh No More' features hit songs such as "The Cave", "Little Lion Man", and "Awake My Soul". All of which are completely acoustic, in fact, the band didn't even have a complete drumset in those songs. Marcus Mumford, the lead singer and guitarist, would produce a dum beat by kicking on a bass drum while playing guitar and singing. The album 'Babel' carried the same style with hit songs like "I Will Wait" and "Lover of the Light".
When the public got word of the new album "Wilder Mind" being released soon, everyone was very excited but not many were ready for change. Well, when the album was realesed, the press exploded with different questions on why Mumford and Sons changed their style from acoustic rockers to electric rockers. Whenever you listen to a song from the album or watch a video of them playing you can notice the changes the band made compared to their previous albums. Their attire changed from a rustic folky outfit to a modern sleek rockstar outfit and, most of all, their instruments changed from acoustics to electrics. There was no longer that big honkin bass that Ted used to carry, instead, he held an electric bass.
Even with the change, the band was still beloved by many poeple in the world. Some might critisize the band and say that they have evolved into that crummy "pop" genre but in all honesty, "None of us had any interest in doing Babel 2. It was always going to be different." -Marcus Mumford. In my opinion, I thought Wilder Mind to be a beautiful album. I liked the fact that Mumford and Sons aren't afraid to make such drastic changes and still have faith in their followers. As far as their next album goes, I have no idea what to expect. All I know is that it is going to be amazing.
