After the recent shootings that took the lives of more than 50 people in Orlando, Florida, Billboard editors decided to draft a letter to Congress calling for an end of violence with firearms. The document was signed by a large group of music industry executives and artists like Jennifer Lopez, Selena Gomez and Shakira.
In the statement celebrities joined the magazine to ask for legislation to tighter arms sales control, including a review of the legal background of all people who want to buy one and also that a blockade is necessary prevent any terrorist suspect acquire a gun.
In addition to the aforementioned artists, including Latin artists who signed the letter they are also Nicky Jam, Fher Olvera (vocals Mana), Prince Royce, Ricky Martin and Jorge Hernandez of Los Tigres del Norte. Other celebrities who also supported the request, including Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato, Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Kesha.
By signing who decided to join the initiative of the publication, Billboard designed the cover of the new edition of its magazine, which also included the text of the letter sent to the United States Congress, to draw even more attention against violence.
