John Mayer Premieres New Song LIVE

After not releasing any music for over three years, John Mayer has announced that he will be putting his new album out four songs at a time, once a month, until the album is fully released. The four songs that he plans to release are “Moving On and Getting Over”, “Changing”, “Love on the Weekend”, and “You’re Gonna Live Forever in Me”. Mayer’s new album “The Search For Everything” has so much hype and excitement built up and fans simply cannot wait for this music to be released.

John Mayer released “Love on the Weekend” as a single on November 17th 2016 and it received a ton of positive feedback. The song has a very simple and poppy tune and the lyrics talk of getting away for the weekend and enjoying time with people we love. However, recently Mayer did a live acoustic show at The Hotel Café in Los Angeles and showcased one of the songs he is supposed to release this month called “Moving On and Getting Over”. This song is extremely groovy and it finally showcases Mayer’s true guitar playing potential unlike his single “Love on the Weekend”. In my opinion, this is the song that long-time fans of John Mayer have been waiting for. The melodies are sweet, the rhythm section grooves, and the guitar rocks. It’s tough to hear the lyrics in the videos that are posted on YouTube, but the most common lyrics heard are “moving on and getting over” and “but I still can’t seem to get you off my mind”. My predictions are that the song’s subject is exactly about what the name of the song suggests, which is interesting because the song feels so positive and dancy.

The way that he’s choosing to release the songs for his album is quite intriguing. While it's maddening to fans that have been longing for new music, it’s genius on a critical and business standpoint. By only allowing four songs at a time to be released, fans and listeners can really indulge in the songs and relish over them without having an opportunity to judge John’s new sound or the album as a whole. This is also a really great move for his business plan because these songs will be played over and over again and if received positively, even more people will be inclined to listen to whatever’s coming next month. I have never really heard of an artist or band releasing their music like this and it’s great to see someone pushing the envelope and trying something new.

It’s unsure how many tracks are on this new album, which means there’s no telling when it’ll completely be released. But, Mayer released his single “Love on the Weekend” in November of 2016 and the first batch of four songs will be released on January 20th, 2017.
