It is never my objective to write about an artist several times over. I do try to variate in my blog topics as much as possible, but I’m loving the new Lady Gaga single too much to ignore, so this will be my third blog about her and I have a feeling it might not be my last.
Her latest album, “Joanne”, has gotten her to return to her singer-songwriter roots. It introduces influences of folk and country to the extended mix of music genres Gaga has managed to incorporate into her own music, so far.
Just last week, the video for “A Million Reasons” was released. The song got picked up as a fan-favorite really quickly after the album release and it was only matter of time before demand would be so high, she just had to release it as a single.
The stripped down song sounds so brutally honest and authentic, especially placed in her situation knowing she recorded the album right after her engagement was broken, that it can’t help but pull your heartstrings. It’s therefore not a surprise that the video is one of those rare Lady Gaga videos without craziness, without heavy make-up, without dance, but luckily, with a wig. Not all of that Gaga-ness is gone.
And even if or when that Gaga-ness would be replaced by maturity (bound to happen one day), craziness follows her. Just recently, she was accused of using the post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTS) as a method of promoting her newest music releases. Well, ain’t that just the oldest trick in the book? Duh! It’s common that actors reveal something personal in an interview just when a movie is out. Anything to get them talking about you or the movie. It works that way in the music business too. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be true.
There have been lots of reports about Gaga’s state of mind throughout the years, but so far I haven’t heard anything truly out of the ordinary. Anything mad crazy. In this case, she has stated there was a traumatic event that happened in her life that had caused her to suffer from this. And I do believe that she believes she can help others by sharing this. I do think she tries to use her fame monster for something positive and for that I still think she’s a healthy alternative to some other stars, who seem to be all focused on spreading self-centeredness. And along the way, she keeps surprising me with her talent in both music and acting. I haven’t found that one reason to turn away from Gaga yet.
