Trust, respect, and honesty are essential elements of maintaining relationships. However, the relationship becomes unstable when one of the elements is replaced by evil ones like dishonesty, doubt, and others. When one makes a mistake against his or her fellow, whether it may be small or grave, there is one thing he or she needs to say wholeheartedly to them, which is “sorry” in order to fix the instability. Sincere apologies are very important in social relationships. It is not “forgive” alone, but it is “forgive and forget”.

This song can depict a guy desperately asking his ex-girlfriend a second chance to be lovers again by realizing his mistakes and telling her that he is very sorry that he hurt her so much. One can say that the guy has deep regret because of his mistakes during their relationship. It can be inferred from the line “You know I try, but I don’t do too well with apologies” that he actually feels embarrassed to ask for apologies but he is doing his best to push his embarrassment aside. This can be supported by the line “I’ll take every single piece of the blame if you want me to”, which signifies that he displays humility and respect.

He becomes down to earth by carrying the burden by himself instead of stacking them on the girl. This is also respectful because he does not force the girl to forgive him and he tells her that it is up to her decision. After all, that girl is the one who received the pain dealt by the guy. However, he leaves her something to ponder, which is shown by the line “But you know that there is no innocent one in this game for two”. This indicates that the girl herself also made mistakes toward the guy asking forgiveness but he does not judge her at all. This only makes her realize that she needs to swallow her pride and face the guy with equal humility.
