Maggie Rogers falls somewhere between pop, indie and dance. So properly classifying where the song-writers music should be placed is highly difficult for me. Even though their are traces of a folk promise in the structure of Roger's ability the track 'Alaska' suggests otherwise.
'Alaska' possess far more charm than this music affectionate individual can deal with. As subtle as Roger's voice comes off to the slip in easy stride the electronic placements create. Maybe the implications of a possible broken heart or messed up relationship exists in the finer details. Yet Roger's dances along our mind, encompassing what shady business has gone down and instructs each of us to forget, inhale and with a stroke of genius exist solely for ourselves.
About 1:20 seconds in, oddly enough the beat simulates a heart beat but to an extreme pop sound. This seems persuasive as well as generally acceptable.
Watching Roger's in the music video for 'Alaska' brushes away any needy pop idol waiting for an array of fans. Walking through a wooded/forest lane, Roger's walks in alone, joined by others then a huge party. But the excellent visionary part is the fact that Roger's walks out alone...the same way she walked in. Whether this metaphor was over looked or expected, shines a light on Roger's future career.
'Alaska' sounds as if the track could have been recorded years before or years from now. There is no time stamp on 'Alaska' in the way as many other songs have become outdated. Not to state a "classic" icon just yet on the track. However, the fact 'Alaska' already rocks a timeless appeal shows immediate progress for Maggie Rogers.
Not only is this singer-songwriter reckless, courageous and outspoken yet no one will ever step in front of this artist to disrupt the steady arc of individuality Roger's has been graced with in this era.
