Real the track from Years & Years will strike a chord within you. Maybe it will be sutble, yet it will be effective. Released as the first single from their 2015 album Communion; what seems to be a nightclub takes a dramatically different turn. A selection of people get up to dance, while the rest sit and watch. We see actors Ben Whishaw and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett being picked from the group since their playing card was picked by the band. However, with Ben Whishaw's character we see him being more aware of his surroundings, no one pays attention to him or even makes eye contact. Until his card is drawn and he hits the dance floor. Instead of coming off as some seedy Studio 54 gathering, his character decides to break loose from his own restraints on his own personal vendetta.
The lighting along in this music video are something to praise about. The variations of red.blue and purple and every shade in between, help to focus in on each individual. Giving everyone a clear understanding what is going through their mind based on the color shone. Almost as if acting as a mood ring to whom ever approaches the dance floor.
Again Years & Years add an double meaning within their video by tricking the mind and giving us more questions to ask ourselves.
