Performance Art Fit For A King

Song reviewed by:

Years & Years have been killing various music channels when it comes to their album Communion, releasing six singles, one single King surpasses a performance art platform. First off perfomance art is a part of the music video for King. So what sets Years & Years away from the era of Electronic music and videos that are based around choreography? Consider this music video true mental art.

King unravels as lead singer Olly Alexander is surrounded by a group of people that move his body and dress him, as if they did not exist at all. Throughout we see from a viewpoint of the lead singer being by himself and surrounded. What we can take from the music video is these individuals that are surrounding the narrative could either be inner demons or the ghost of another's doing.

At one point it seems as if the performance art dancers are acting as emotions bottled up, feeding on the inner desillusion of a break down happening within the singer's mind. By trying to break away and escape; nothing seems to work until the singer eventually let's go.

This is a great concept for the mental awareness when it comes to being with another and then breaking away.
