Capital Ferg Perspective on Such a Shame
Great question! To be honest, categorizing my music by genre or sub-genre has been one of the hardest things for me to do, pretty much across my catalogue. I definitely blend hip hop, R&B, electronic, pop, and even folk into my sound and this song is no exception. This release definitely has some soul with the emotions and vocal ad libs (belts and falsetto), but it also has a rap verse that's reminiscent of conscious hip hop that is influenced by greats like Common or Kendrick Lamar. I still don't know what I would call this song. I guess categorizing it as hip hop is the safest option but I'm open to any suggestions from others. Genre blending is what makes artists unique.
It always tends to favor recent songs, as I grow emotionally attached to them during the beat making and recording process. I honestly think this one is my favorite now (Such a Shame). The reason being its emotionally-charged lyrics, delivery, and ad libs, coupled with my vocals which saw me blend in belts, falsettos, and lower register harmonies for a fuller and somewhat hypnotic vibe (IMO)
