John Mayer fed the rumors about his never ending crush on Katy Perry, and their on-off relationship, with the release of his latest jam, “Still Feel Like Your Man” and the admission that this, indeed, is about Katy Perry. Luckily, he didn’t play into this even further with the video for this song and pull a Justin Timberlake, who put a Britney Spears look-a-like in his video when he had something to say about their romance. Instead, John decided to create a bit of a dance video for it, with dancing pandas. I just thought I’d warn you about that ahead of time.
To my recollection , I actually never saw a John Mayer video before. I only know what he looks like from the slew of famous women he dated and seeing those pictures, but I considered him to be a serious musician with a soul sound, so I expected the club setting and such, but the dancing and the pandas really got me confused now.
Anyway, putting that aside, the song itself is a soulful jam based around the electric piano, a catchy bass line and the electric guitar for some nice, and much needed, accents. The song picks up the pace in the chorus with the smooth vocal harmonies completing its sound. It’s a perfect song for a lazy Sunday morning.
It’s exactly what you would expect from John Mayer, because all of his songs sound this way. Luckily, there’s always a time and place for his sound, but you know I’m mainly interested in artists who are a little more experimental within their music. The fact that John is more stable within his music than his women, is probably why the latter is brought under my attention more.
But before you think that it makes the video for “Still Feel Like Your Man” the most exciting discovery for me, I really do like the song. The hope it holds in its topic also shows in the music of the song and therefore the whole feel of it is really positive. I think that is why he chose a light hearted video for the song even though he did get some criticism for exploiting every Asian stereotype there is in it. He definitely got everyone talking about him, again.
