The Evolving
Lady Gaga
When Lady Gaga burst onto the music scene(2005) I was not really a fan especially of her "over the top" couture. I most specifically recall the horrible fashion faux pas with a dress designed out of meat. Though I did not enjoy her fashion statements, I did enjoy singing along to her ear candy pop songs but I wouldn't call myself a Gaga fan. These notable diva pop songs such as Poker Face and Paparazzi jettisoned this club singer to fame with a dedicated and strong following within the LGBTQ community. Diehard fans across the board were incredibly dedicated to her music, outlandish outfits, and over the top persona. She was mysterious, daring, exotic and entertaining with an element of surprise. Though she seemed to be hiding behind the costumes, masks, and wigs. With all her bells, whistles, and fireworks, we really didn't know who this artist actually was. Until... Lady Gaga started to evolve and show us what she was really about behind the facade.
I thihk it is accurate to say that we were all blown away when she collaborated with Tony Bennett. Her fans, the press, and the music community were all delightfully and totally surprised by her legit singing voice when she paired with this Jazz icon.
Sans costumes, Lady Gaga evolved into a 1940's jazz star and it was incredible to listen and watch her effortlessly perform with Bennett. Their chemistry was also amazing!
I sense that Lady Gaga's evolution to “midstream” has been a delightful evolution.
With her collaboration with Bennett on a Jazz album “Cheek to Cheek”. I think we were all shocked that it was incredible! She proved that she could actually sing standards.
I loved watching her sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl with her being dressed so patriotically. It was one of the best renditions the country has ever heard. Fabulous!
Lady Gaga has once again evolved musically, with her latest album, Joanne based on her beloved Aunt, Joanne Stefanie Germanotta who as Gaga shares was one of the most important figures in her life. She sings about emotional and physical abuse and the death of her father's sister , Joanne.
The album was released October 21, 2016 with the music described as being “stripped down , soft rock and dance pop styles.
In promoting the album, Lady Gag has donned a Pink Cowboy hat, sans clothing of course which is now her signature look. The pink hat represents more of who she is inside as opposed to her public persona, as Huffington Post writes.
The Pink Hat also played a small part in writing of the songs on the new album as Gaga began writing the songs while wearing the hat in her bathtub.
