HAIM brings HOPE to today's music and musicians

When you mix the drumbeats and synth elements of the 80’s with the anthem-based pop songs of the 00’s you get something that sounds like HAIM. HAIM is an American pop band from Los Angeles. The band is comprised of sisters Alana, Danielle, and Este Haim. The sisters were introduced to music at extremely young ages, bound to fall in love with the art sooner or later. When they were younger they played music in cover bands with their parents who were clearly very supportive of the path that they chose to take once music became more serious to them. After Danielle Haim gained success being a touring guitarist for artists such as Jenny Lewis and Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, the sisters decided to put their band into full action.

They have two releases so far, including an EP called “Forever” and a full-length entitled “Days Are Gone”. The EP “Forever” was released in February of 2012 as a limited-time free download on their official website. After it received attention from the music industry and the group successfully performed shows at South By Southwest, HAIM signed a deal with Polydor Records. After the group spent a year to record another album, they released “Days Are Gone”. Although the band presents more of a rock-influenced live show, HAIM came out really heavy with synths and drum machines for the full-length release. The album reached number one in the UK and has also reached international acclaim. The group received many more opportunities since the release of the album including opening for singer-songwriter Taylor Swift at select dates on The 1989 World Tour.

What makes HAIM so unique is their musical style and how they pay homage to older types of music. They have even been compared to the soft rock sounds of Fleetwood Mac, and their songs are extremely reminiscent, in a great way, to the glittery sounds of pop music in the 80’s. They also have an edge in the scene today because they inspire other women to play music and write songs, stating, “Being a girl in a band shouldn’t be a thing.” They believe that musicians should be respected on their musical merit and they definitely accomplish and impress many people without bringing gender into the equation. Not only do they bring hope to today’s art with truly melodic, catchy, and great music, but they also inspire both men and women to play and write music of their own.
