'Love On The Weekend' was the last song I thought I would be drawn to. Especially since John Mayer has been in and out of the limelight for some time now. However, with 'Love On The Weekend' Mayer has announced to release a new album in 2017. In technical terms, it has been two years since Mayer has unveiled a new single or any new music. From what can be gathered from 'Love On The Weekend' the singer may be headed towards a more Indie/Pop genre. While Mayer continues to balance out between reinventing Contemporary Pop, 'Love On The Weekend' arrives just in the nick of time before Winter becomes fully established.
Ideally Mayer's newest single adds a fine tuned bridge between Adult Contemporary and Indie Pop. Maybe with Mayer's way of distancing himself from the crazed fame Mayer was starting to become known for, nonetheless this single gives his fan's a great outlook towards the future.
After the announcement on Facebook, Mayer also stated that "Next year is a year of more music coming than I've ever put out in one year." This rightly indicates Mayer has stepped back to his roots and focusing all of his energy on new music.
Now back to 'Love On The Weekend', starting off with the easy going Indie vibe. The song stands out on the simple Pop structure. While a lot of songs may sound similar in comparison Mayer's newest track gifts a certain original promise. Even though the influences are plainly there, the songwriting does acquire a sort of nostalgic essence. Crafting a line between looking back yet living in the moment. Mayer has no problem with addressing particular feelings or in this case a great feel good song. By utilizing a Pop structure Mayer illustrates present day thoughts with a growing understanding of who, where or what he intends to become.
