This little beauty was sprung on us very suddenly.
In My Blood is the new single from the fourth album of Aussie twins The Veronicas, and within a week of it being announced, via the girls' Twitter accounts, it was available.
If you want to sum the song up, simply look at the single cover - nudity, purple glitter body paint, and palm trees in the sun - it's a futuristic, slightly alien, summer hit. Imagine a thumping techno beat, electronic synths, and the perfect pop melodies with clear-cut harmonious vocals that Lisa and Jess Origliasso are known for; combine it with some bongos and some Kylie Minogue influence, and you're there. Frankly, it's one of their best singles to date.
It's heavily infuenced by the track Lolita, the single that was meant for their unreleased third album (before they released their actual third album, The Veronicas), and if that's the direction they're heading, their new album is going to be an artistic masterpiece and potentially the girls' best work yet. According to Jessica, the new track is based upon "that elated, euphoric feeling of love at first sight... I was going through something at the time I wanted to capture. Love and adrenaline are rushing through your blood. It’s like a chemical injection. You’ve instantly connected with someone. You’re knocked out by this person.”
Promising to be popular on the Australian music scene this summer (or winter, if you're down under), here's hoping that fans from all over the world can help to get it out internationally. In My Blood deserves to be blasted out from radios everywhere and somehow, I don't think having it thumping from the tiny speakers in my Ford KA down the road in the UK will do anything.
The video is on its way, but for now, simply enjoy the song and, if you're somewhere nice, the matching weather.
