David Bowie’s death came as a shock to everyone.
The world mourned for the loss of a musical genius, a legend that will live on through his work forever.
So it's no wonder that, at this year’s Grammy Awards, there's going to be a tribute performed to him. And the person to deliver that performance? None other than Lady Gaga.
The eccentric artist, who has turned to acting and a tour with jazz veteran Tony Bennett during her break from pop music (her last LP release being ARTPOP in 2013), is returning to her roots to bring the world what will surely be a worthy tribute to a man that she has openly admitted to being heavily inspired by while forging her own career, speaking recently to the Hollywood Reporter: "When I fell in love with David Bowie, I always felt that his glamour was something he was using to express a message to people that was very healing for their souls.
“He is a true, true artist and I don't know if I ever went, 'Oh, I'm going to be that way like this,' or if I arrived upon it slowly, realizing it was my calling and that's what drew me to him." Remember that lightning bolt she used to sport back in 2008? Bowie.
Gaga was already due to perform at the ceremony, but as news of Bowie’s death broke, Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich decided that the New Yorker was the perfect artist to honour the late icon.
What can we expect? Theatrics, most likely, with a healthy dose of stunning musical arrangement and talent from the lady. Her performance will be directed by Chic’s Nile Rogers and Ehrlich says that it “is going to be a true homage to who David was.”
Whatever it turns out to be, the world can't wait to see it.
Tune into the 58th Annual Grammy Awards on February 15 at 8pm ET.
