Coldplay = Coldstop

Coldplay are about to lose the last particles of their stardust. For many years, they have been golden only because they are living on old fame. You don’t believe me? Just listen to their last two albums and it will easily lead you to the same conclusion.

When Coldplay exploded, they had numerous hits that made their albums very well established and powerful. As the time goes by, Coldplay are getting lost. They have tried to find the right way in pop and dance music and made the wrong turn on Mylo Xylto which culminated on their worst album ever, Ghost Stories. Well, Ghost Stories has a serious competitor and his name is A Head Full Of Dreams.

Pop mixed with dance rhythms and r’n’b? Really, Coldplay? I know that the bends are supposed to evolve but the way in which Coldplay have made the transition seems very forced and dishonest. Instead of art, we get the fart. Pardon my French.

They are known for ballades and half-ballades. When these type of songs are left to producers of electronic music, we often get this corny result. In case of Coldplay, the result is that I couldn’t even finish listening every song to the very end. Most tracks fit the mold but there is no passion. Some might say how Chris Martin was writing better songs before he met Gwyneth Paltrow.

Anyhow, the most important thing is done. New album is out and now the band can go on tour. Setlist of Colplay’s concerts is predominantly filled with songs from first four albums. Thank God! Fans will appreciate it and they will still remain one of the biggest attractions. Maybe this is their last tour because A Head Full of Dreams sounds like their last album.

The album lacks inspiration. It sounds like a typical Coldplay album, only less interesting, less emotional and less powerful. It sounds like a bad copy of itself. Even though the album features Beyonce, Noel Gallagher, Tove Lo, Khatia Buniatishvili and Merry Clayton, it is still one of this year’s weakest efforts.
