One of pop music’s most influential albums is celebrating a birthday this week: Lady Gaga’s The Fame (2008) is turning seven.
Seven years is a long time and it’s amazing to think about everything one of the world’s biggest pop stars has achieved since that first single, Just Dance (feat. Colby O’Donis), was number one on radios across the globe.
Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, has gone from being a club singer on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, to a household name. She’s sold 23 million records worldwide, 12 million of those going to The Fame, won five Grammys, and 13 MTV Music Awards.
Her first two single releases, Just Dance (feat. Colby O’Donis) and Poker Face, which can both be found on The Fame, have sold a total of 17.5 million worldwide. Gaga’s tours have gone from earning $3.15 million in ticket sales for The Fame Ball Tour (2009) to a whopping $257.1 million for last year’s ArtRave: The ARTPOP Ball Tour (2014-15).
And although Gaga took some ‘time out’ across 2014 and 2015 to complete a world tour with Tony Bennett with their collaborative jazz album, Cheek To Cheek (2014), and to star in the upcoming American Horror Story: Hotel, she’s now back in the studio and gearing up for her new record, currently known as #LG5, which will hopefully be released early next year.
So in seven years Gaga’s:
toured worldwide five times, released three more solo albums, started her own charity (the Born This Way Foundation),brought out two perfumes, starred in ,Machete Kills (2013)gotten engaged, and recovered from a major hip injury.
That’s just to name a few things.
What have I done in seven years? Nothing as impressive as that.
Where’s the time gone? And where will Gaga be when The Fame turns 14 in another seven years time?
Only time will tell.
