Ed Sheeran absent from One Love Manchester concert
Ed Sheeran could not be at the One Love Manchester concert, but acknowledged the initiative as a measure to prevent terrorism from affecting the lives of fans. "Of course I would have liked to participate if I had been there, I thought it was fantastic," he told a press conference in Mexico City on Saturday. Last weekend, Ariana Grande hosted the One Love Manchester charity concert with guests including Miley Cyrus, Coldplay and Katy Perry to support the victims of the May 22 terrorist attack following the Grande's recital in Manchester. The attack left 22 dead and 59 wounded, including multiple minors. "I think the attack will obviously change security at the concerts, but if you let an attack like that affect the daily life of music in general, that means that the people who committed the attack won, because that's what the attacks are about Terrorists, "said Sheeran, who published a video to help the British Red Cross to raise funds for the victims. "The best way to fight it is to do exactly what they did in Manchester, to bond with love and move on and make people feel good about music, I think it would be totally wrong to stop making music like that," he said. Prior to his first concert in Mexico, the British artist said that he would like to sing in another language and that he has been in talks with Alejandro Sanz and Camila Cabello.
"There will be something at some point in what I will not be singing in English," he said at the Mexico City Sports Palace. "I think there will be more influence from Latin music, not just reggaeton in Europe," he added when answering another question about the region's music. It was recently revealed that Sheeran, who is the author of global hits "Thinking Out Loud" and "Photograph", would have liked to play the song "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi, whose remix ended up being played by Justin Bieber. "Before Justin Bieber did it I had seen the lyrics," he said, "but now it's done." Another project that changed direction in Sheeran's career was the song "Shape of You", which was originally said to Rihanna. Sheeran explained that initially she intended to give the melody to the singer and at the same time to do something with the electronic music band Rudimental, but in the end the executives of his label said that it would be much better if Sheeran stayed with the subject . As for his most recent album "Divide", released in March this year, explained that he composed it while he was at home and the songs "were more happy and positive."
Elton John was one of the first to recommend Sheeran's music and put it on the right track for the production of their debut album "Plus" 2011. Both met a year earlier and Sheeran said he was impressed at first. "The more you know, the more you realize, though it sounds weird to say, he's a very normal person, even though it's Elton John. He's a very nice guy and he likes to make music," he said. "Now when I work with him, he's a colleague instead of someone I need to fear, but that's taken me seven years." During the conference Sheeran received a gold record, as "Divide" surpassed the 30,000 units sold in Mexico and a triple platinum record for its previous album, "Multiply", which surpassed the 160,000 units sold in the country. Sheeran toured South America in 2015, but did not want to be left without the desire to greet Mexico, where she has many followers who have helped her to become one of Spotify's most listened artists. Following her concert in the Mexican capital, Sheeran will appear Monday in Guadalajara and Wednesday in Monterrey. "I do not know why it took me so long to come but this has been a place where I've always wanted to play so I'm very excited to be here," he said. "The reception is twice as big as in a country where they speak English, wherever I've been in Latin America the reception has been very impressive."
