When thought I could not get anything new from the Beatles, who had seen everything, a television station in Australia proved otherwise. The National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA), audiovisual archive of Australia, published an unreleased video of the band from Liverpool, filmed in 1965, which captures the moments before a television appearance.
The clip has only 49 seconds in black and white and without sound. The images were taken on November 1, 1965 in a dressing room by Dawn Swane, a dancer and make-up artist then working in the chain Granada TV in Manchester (UK) and recorded them with a 8 mm camera.
"I was in the makeup room and we were drinking champagne," said Swane, who now has 83 years. "I do not know if it was John or Ringo but took the camera and said, 'This is no way to use it' and started moving up and down, everyone was joking," he recalled.
The charge of making public this material was Melinda Doring, the daughter of makeup, a few years ago he noted that the tapes were suffering from "vinegar syndrome" caused by the deterioration of film material, so he set out to save him. "I knew there was enough to be preserved material and knew it was time to call the file and stabilize and preserve it before it was lost forever," said Melinda.
Dawn Swane, meanwhile, said he was happy because people could see a bit of the Beatles, while highlighting the human warmth of John, Paul, George and Ringo. "It was great, I mean they were good people, they were really" he said.
