Jack of all Tongues, Master of None

Wild Nothing's song Summer Holiday has echoes of forbidden love. The persona sings of being in a place and time that is transient and the subject of the song is the person that the persona is in love with:

You speak in tongues I can't resist

You run me 'round I cannot think

We're driving to your parent's house just for a visit and I'm sleeping in your brother's bed

Won't you sneak into my room and crawl under the covers talk nonsense in your sleep

Genius

Speaking in tongue, also known as glossolalia, is the act of speaking speech-like syllables that have no apparent meaning or in a religious sense, is the utterance of a divine language whose meaning escapes the speaker. Hence, in relation to the lyrics, the persona in enamored by the tongue that the subject speaks, despite not understanding it. To go deeper, one could say that the subject has become sort of a subject of divine worship, in that the persona becomes obssessed with them despite speaking a language that is similar to their own.

It seems that the subject's parents are at least somewhat aware of the blossoming relationship between the persona and the subject, hence forcing them to sleep in seperate rooms. Despite this, the persona implores the subject to join them together in a single bed, where, presumably their love can continue the flourish. The last two lines:

We're driving to your parent's house just for a visit and I'm sleeping in your brother's bed

Won't you sneak into my room and crawl under the covers talk nonsense in your sleep

is repeated throughout the three stanzas in the song, indicating a serious want for the subject as well as the youthful nuances of "talking nonsense in your sleep".
