No Drama Queen certainly adds a bite to the long list unexpected song titles. Yet, if you've ever seen Paper Towns crafted from the mind of John Green, Grouplove's hit song was placed on the soundtrack.
Grouplove attached a catchy Los Angeles indie band sound with No Drama Queen. Even though at first, I classified the track as whiny and not attractive at all. It would just take a bit of time for Grouplove to grow on me. Maybe Paper Towns had to find a place for the song to become translated as the song should have been. Although Grouplove is an indie based group, with five band members and three individuals playing vocalist. Not many bands think about sharing let alone tossing aside an ego ridden front man/woman. It is with hope Grouplove continue on spreading a unique quality of vocal mix-ups.
No Drama Queen captures an honest teenager, going to school and dealing with drama queen's kind of essence. Whether or not the intent was to sound a bit familiar (The Concept - Teenage Fanclub). Not in the typical form of sounding identical, more in the format based on atmosphere.
As "teenage" No Drama Queen comes off, we don't really have any coming of age music to fall back on. Normally the topic spans from relationships to politics. So needlessly to say it's a nice step away from reality to fall back into some helpless, hopeless nostalgia.
Most likely Grouplove is on everyone's playlist or at least they were. With the release of The Fault In Our Stars, Paper Towns, Frankenweenie and the famous HBO show Girls. Safe to say Grouplove have garnered a decent amount of film/television show publicity. However, it should be said that most fantastic "in the moment" songs are part of a playlist or soundtrack on t.v. or in films.
