"Good Morning" is a track from LA pop-rockers Grouplove's (lead vocalist and guitarist Christian Zucconi, lead vocalist and keyboardist Hannah Hooper, drummer Ryan Rabin, guitarist Andrew Wessen, and bassist Daniel Gleason) third album Big Mess (2016). The album's title refers to the daily challenges that the band faced after Christian Zucconi and vocalist Hannah Hooper welcomed a baby girl named Willa in 2015 and attempted to repair their L.A. home, which had fallen into shambles by the time they returned from their nonstop tour for their last album, Spreading Rumours (2013):

"I feel like when you're in high school and college you're pretty self-involved. When you step away from that, especially when you're bringing a child into this world, just looking out into your neighborhood and your little introverted world and starting to realize that regardless of how hectic your direct world is, the world is pretty intense. We were feeling it on a pretty crazy level. I think it's inspiring".

Hannah Hooper, Rolling Stone

With fast-paced kooky and somewhat nonsensical verses ('From the black to the blue/ To black, black, you like that?/ Call on the cat cause the cat dragged in/ I caught the rat/ The rat, rat, the rat trap/ All I know') and anthemic feel-good it's-always-time-to-party message ('The night is young, the rest is up to you/ Why ya' gotta say, "good morning"'), the track is the kind of song that you can't help but bop your head to. The message may not be particularly deep or original, but it certainly helps the track succeed as a populist and radio-friendly crowd-pleaser. The juxtaposition of Hannah Hooper's steady, delicate voice with Christian Zucconi's jubilant cooing makes for a pleasing and engaging dynamic, while the track's indie, pop and electronic dance music influences present a fresh yet familiar sonic template.

The accompanying music video complements the song's bright and trippy aesthetic with its quirky premise: Zucconi suffers from sickness, leading Hooper to embark on an urban quest to find the 'light' that will save him. The music video features an unexpected appearance from Elle Fanning, synchronized noodle slurping in a Chinese restaurant, and a possibly life-saving dosage of fun.
