The Hubbards Are Back!

It’s been a little while since we’ve heard anything new from Hull’s favourite four-piece, The Hubbards, but now they’re back with a new EP out 4th March, Cold Cut.

Reuben Driver, Alex Green, Ronan Burns and Joe Orlowski met at school and got on well instantly, due to shared musical tastes and a desire to write clever indie rock. Their story is a fairly typical one though their music is anything but,  treading a line between alternative, pop and indie rock with one of the most unique vocals you’re likely to hear.

New single and title track from the EP, Cold Cut is a self-deprecating love song which lurches and sways along to tight rhythms and intertwining melodies. You could be forgiven for not really noticing the song’s complex structure and meticulous guitar-work, because of their subtle implementation, but don’t underestimate the thought that has gone in to this track.

In my eyes The Hubbards sit alongside some of the most underrated and criminally overlooked bands of the last few years, having existed just on the peripheries of commercial success since their early days. They’ve shared stages with bands like Foals and The 1975, received Radio 1 and 6 Music airplay and garnered praise from music press all over the country. With a more considered and slick sound than their previous work and the currently rising tide of British bands of their ilk achieving success, could it be Cold Cut which propels them to the next level?

In support of the EP, the band will be embarking on a UK tour in spring, make sure to catch them live before they make it big!
