I'm a little late to the London Gramar love-in, whilei like etherial dream-pop their first collection of songs didn't really do it for me and I was put off by the unfair comparisons to The XX. Then I listened to Big Picture, the first track off of their forthcoming second album, and I've finally been convinced. The XX comparisons sound hollow due to the majext of this song, a song that sounds so simply pleasing, with few real components to it bar syths and Hannah Reid's wonderful voice. It's captivating;y intamite while still feeling huge, this sound could fill a stadium without much problem.
London Gramar have a lot of potential, and unlike The XX before them, they don't have a debut album that is considered a classic to follow up. They have music in which to build on, a reputation for perfectionism that will take them far, and as evidenced by Big Picture, songwriting that only gets better, fuller, and more mature. Count me in.
