Cormac Perspective on True Colours
I'm a 13 year-old musician, known for singing but can play piano and guitar. I was the youngest ever person to have a record deal with Decca Records (UMG) when I was 11 years old. My debut album charted around the world, notably 11 & 3 in the UK & Australian official classical charts. I've featured on TV & radio, including TV competitions such as BGT & Chorister of the Year. Now independent, I've been making my own brand of music - typically piano-ballads - with renowned pianist, Dominic Ferris for the past 18 months.
This is my first release where I accompany myself on the piano. I love the simplicity of this song and the meaningful lyrics.
Oh wow, I've been listening to music since I was a baby!
I never gave it any thought but the opportunity was given to me when Decca got in touch following some songs I had put up on YouTube. Because of Covid I didn;t get many opportunities to perform at the time of the release but have sionce gone on and performed at some amazing venues.
It is a piano-ballad, pop, adult contemporary.
As I have aged and my voice has matured I've been able to tackle more complex songs and typically moved away from from classical background to more pop or crossover based genre. I'm learning the guitar and have written a few songs and feel my next phase will be more acoustic.
In recent time most of the covers I have done have been quite dark and melancholic which migbht seem odd for being so young but people have resonated with the sound of a young voice singing about adult emotion. I don#t try to sing like an adult but keep true to myself and this is usually a gentle understated performance.
Oh wow - difficult one. Tom Odell and Ed Sheeran would be up there but there are so many talented artists so I woul;dn;t be too fussy :)
Understated, emotional and moving.
Very difficult to say - my most successful to date is "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" and this is a great song to sing as it has such great octave leaps and the lyrics and dyanmics are amazing but for all that I really enjoyed singing Cinema Paradis recently in Italian; it has such a delicate beautiful emotional feel.
I am fortunate to havbe alreadyu performed at the Royal; Albert Hall and the Palladium in London as well as other famous venues in the UKL & Ireland but I guess my dream would be to perform in these venues as an adult.
I love what Tommy Profitt does with his music so yeah that would be a great collab!
I want them to feel moved - uplifted and transported out of the moment.
Just sending links from music platforms usually - I have Apple and Spotify
I like to think that I have been true to my talent in that I haven't gone ahead and chosen to sing popular covers just to get the numbers but have chosen songs for what they mean to me and how I can make them my own.
Well my voice has recently started to move from a soprano to a proper teen voice so right now it is a bit rough as it settles. I still practice a few hours a week but don;t push it so as not to damage my voice. I also practice piano, guitar & sound production (logic pro) for a few hours each week; evcerything is a slow learning curve.
That's a difficult one as so many kindpeople have written to me saying how much my music has moved them. I was thrilled to received a fantastic review from Mike Batt for my cover of his iconic song, Bright Eyes. There's also a youtube video by a respected voice coach (Karisma) analysing my performance of Empty Chairs and this is very flattering.
I'm still young and whilst I've had a degree of success I recognise that the hard work has yet to come as I grow into adulthood.
That's a good question. I think the role the artist has is to enrich peoples'lives with music and from time time get them to question certain issues. Artists with a massive fanbase can influence positively if they want to,
I want to be one of the few young boy singers to make the transition from being known as a boy singer to being a serious musician.
None - I'm still at school :)
Hahaha well like most performers I forgot the words to a song. I was singing Danny Boy and ended up morphing the song into You Rasie me Up. Most of the audience of businessmen were drunk so didn't notice!
I don't like the way content is forced to become shorter and shorter and any long content seems to be penalised by the ubiquitous algorithm god!
Just music really - probably just not old enough to appreciate anything else though I am going to try film-making as that is another way of telling a story.
Prepare, prepare and prepare. If you think you know the lyrics you don't - you have to be 100% as when the pressure is on it can unravel. Also, I think it is important to relax on stage as that make the audience relax and makes for a better connection.
I guess to produce great songs and be respected for this.
