Dasher is the brainchild of Kylee Kimbrough, whose powerhouse drumming and vocals unite influences like
Patti Smith, shoegaze, and Japanese hardcore into ferocious post-punk. Kimbrough began Dasher in 2010 as an outlet for her own songs after spending years in Atlanta punk bands that included
the Wild, Knaves Grave, and Abby GoGo. Taking the project's name from the blade in a blender, she began playing with bassist Ian Deaton and Abby GoGo guitarist Jon Allinson. This version of the band recorded Yeah I Know, a 2013 demo tape that introduced Kimbrough's straight-ahead drum attack and delay-enhanced vocals (the tape was later reissued by Scavenger of Death). That year, Dasher also issued the single Go Rambo/Time Flies on Die Slaughterhouse Records. Another single, Soviet/Teeth, arrived in 2014 via
Suicide Squeeze. After signing to
Jagjaguwar, Kimbrough relocated to Bloomington, Indiana and spent some time dealing with her diagnosis of high-functioning autism and filling out Dasher's lineup. With guitarists Steve Garcia and Derek McCain, and bassist Gary Magilla in place, Dasher recorded its debut album, Sodium, which
Jagjaguwar released in July 2017. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
