2ne1's Missing You: A Masterpiece
Personally I like songs that are depressing and lonely so I was so happy when I learned that 2ne1 would be having a single that's my type! This time, I'd give it a shot reviewing their single, "Missing You," which was released on November 21, 2013. Let's start the song review of the inspiring 2ne1 with the intro of the song.
The "Oooohh Ahhh" in the beginning of the song is really catchy. The harmonization is great with Dara's smooth vocals complementing the voices of the other members. I can hear Dara's voice clearer than them.
The first verse is led by Minzy, the youngest of the group. Her voice is strong and powerful which helps her to fully express what the song wants to convey. Although she is the youngest, her voice seems matured. Then, Bom comes after her with a different tone, a raspy yet pretty one. No wonder why many BlackJacks ( fandom name of the group) consider her as one of the artists with unique voice. I like the quality of her voice in the song.
Dara then joins them with her own cute and sweet tone. Her voice gives another reason to love more the song. It's very relaxing to hear. Next is CL, who has a throaty approach to the song. Surprisingly, she can sing, too, considering her role in the group as the rapper.
Usually, Bom sings the chorus and this song is not an exception. It is beautiful and I can feel the emotion even though I cannot understand the language. Generally, K-pop songs have repetitive choruses and I must include this song. It repeats the word "Geuriwohaeyo" which is the Korean word for "Missing You," the title of the song. It was probably intended to make it easy to remember.
The sequence of the song is just the same. They just switch some parts to sing. I noticed that in the backgorund, I can hear bubble-like sounds. It's kinda interesting. I like it better when Minzy's singing the "Geuriwohaeyo" part than CL. CL sang it in falsetto while Minzy did it in her mixed voice. I can say that Minzy's part is much more appealing than CL's.
The piano then plays and then you can hear Bom singing the last part of the song with her expressive instrument. The backing vocals are also amazing.
I can feel the sadness and sorrow while listening to the song. And that's what I love about it. If you have a problem, you can always play it and listen to it. They also delivered well the message through their singing. Good job, 2ne1!
