Mattia Cupelli is a fantastic composer of epic new age orchestra music. I was lucky enough to find him here on Kurrent Music. He cleverly using repeating piano chords that are almost minimalist in nature, which most movie tracks have in stock language in music. Much of his music employs synthesizers. It also employs chord structures of thirds and sixths together. There are many different instrumental colors in his music that instantly draws ears to it. Some of my favorites include “In Veins” and “Touch.” The latter of the two tracks employs triadic inversions that repeat over and over, hence the minimalist feeling. The former has the surging synthesizer textures with the 3rds and 6ths in pretty good succession.
I want to dwell a bit on the song “Touch.” There is this instant recognition of sadness. The rocking motion of the A minor chords that are broken with a second added to them. The texture begins easily enough with repeated chords and the repeated B for the melody in the beginning bars of the piece. The melody soon evolves into the revolving B and C for the melody while the same underlying chord structure of A minor, C Major 7, G major, and D major. Then the texture takes a turn to E minor, G major, and C major (progression respectively). The solo piano piece would fit perfectly with any sad or emotional soundtrack that you could put with it. It’s got that heart and soul that we all know and love.
There are many people doing cover versions of it out here on Youtube, so by this, you could tell that “Touch” is a very popular track. You may also want to check out the many other albums and tracks that Mattia Cupel has out. Even, subscribe to his channel. His music will touch your heart.
