Jesus Sons Love Their Vintage Paraphernalia

Jesus Sons are a band who had anti-conformist attitude towards contemporary music. They have nothing to do with either indie nor folk scene, and they do not sound like anything else coming from Los Angeles. In times when the whole world has become accelerated, digitized, plastic and automatic, we have a crew comprised of good boys who seem to have dropped out of time machine. They have come with their VW van and brought their rustic analogue paraphernalia, all in service of delivering messy, unfiltered rock n roll.

On their third album conveniently titled Tres, Californian crew does not step back from their authentic style and matrix which were set with their 2015 debut Bring It On Home. Truth to be told, this record is slightly easier, darker and more destructive, but only in that bittersweet fashion, in the same way as the music from the early 60s was both sketchy and fun.

Jesus Sons start fiercely. Please Release Me From Your Spell sounds like Flamin Groovies/Rolling Stones combo with Dylan on the vocals. Coast To Coast is similar, while Livin Easy brings downtempo resembling Birds. Feel Alright (That Bottle) brings Doors to mind, mostly due to its exuberant guitar and piano. Six Days On The Road is stoner r'n'r, closest to Flying Burrito Brothers, although Jesus Sons spice it up with honky tonk elements.

Tres was recorded and produced by Jason Soda; bassist Erik Lake was responsible for vocals. Other members include pedal steel guitarist Grady Kinnoin, drummer Shaughnessy Start, and Shannon Deana and Bert Hoover on guitars. I am sure we will hear more about these names in the future.
