The Night Flight Orchestra - Amber Galactic [Album Review]

When you find out the names behind The Night Flight Orchestra you’ll think the band is another supergroup promising the world a revolution. But the truth is quite different. Instead of trying to make something new and exciting, and then failing stupendously like most other supergroups, The Night Flight Orchestra is actually a bro band, created so its members can play music they love while at the same time having a hell of a good time. This can be heard in every song, and seen in every music video released by the band.

Most members made a name playing Gothenburg metal. Sharlee D'Angelo plays bass in Arch Enemy for almost two decades, Björn "Speed" Strid is the famous voice behind Soilwork, along with David Andersson who plays guitar in the same band. But the sound of The Night Flight Orchestra is something completely different. The band plays hard rock sounding like it came from the eighties. Infectious guitar solos, stadium rock choruses, and excellent drumming are the main ingredients found in every song. Add a pinch or two of keyboards, mostly placed in the background, and you have a record that is a masterpiece, an excellent tribute to the old sound that took the world by surprise in decades past.

If you like old hard rock The Night Flight Orchestra is a band you must listen to. Each and every song can be called a hit. If the album got released thirty years ago it would be a platinum record and would become famous by now. The sad truth is that releasing something like Amber Galactic these days won’t get you the money or the fans, but that doesn’t stop the record to deliver awesome tunes, song after song.

The lyrics are dealing with love, parties, booze, and girls. Most of them are pompous stadium rock anthems that will make you sing-along every time the record starts playing on your headphones. When talking about standout tracks I could just list all songs from the album and be done. And that’s true; every song is excellent, every riff is catchy, every chorus will be remembered. While you listen to Amber Galactic you’ll notice bits of Thin Lizzy, early Kiss, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, and other famous bands incorporated into every song, like the guys from the band took the list of the best hard rock bands from the 70’s and 80’s and decided to record an album that will be a collage of best hard rock elements. If you love classic hard rock check this baby out. It is a phenomenal record that just keeps on giving, even after you hear it for the twentieth time, believe me.
