Sometimes, a name of the band can discover a lot about the band, and sometimes the name is a total flop that has nothing to do with the music the band plays. Try to think of few examples for eah side and you’ll see what I am writing about. My opinion is that The Sweet Release of Death have absolutely hit the right spot with their name.
The Sweet Release Of Death is the band that comes from Rotterdam and they play noise-pop. They do it powerfully. During the whole length of their second effort, we are left with the impression that these are mature and experienced musicians that know what they want and they know how to get to it. Confidence is sweet, isn’t it?
The songs incorporate the elements of alternative rock in the most narrow sense possible. Then, in combination with shoegaze noise, we get very frenetic sonic matrix. Switch between downtempo and noise sections creates a brilliant dynamic of the album, so I would not be surprised If this band becomes very famous in their homecountry soon.
Their name sounds very dark, but ‘sweet’ is better in suggesting what can of audio material to expect. All shades of grey are there, with just a few extremely dark moments. As far as I understood the lyrics, it is clear that they were able to stand out from the standard narratives that surround us. I wanted to sample few verses, but as most of my readers are from English speaking countries, I realized that would be futle.
Anyhow, the whole release is diverse, playful and approachable, although I would recommend the album only to those who are into heavy sounds. Even though you don’t understand the language, music knows no language. Music IS language. Trio from Netherlands is definitely a force to be reckon with.
