The Dead C - Trouble

The New Zealand lo-fi avant-garde noise-rock/garage rock greats The Dead C came out with a new album this year via Ba Da Bing Records. As was perhaps expected, then the album didn't really dissappoint with its mixture of avant-garde drone motion and lo-fi droney noise-rock. It might as well be said that ''Trouble'' packs some pretty clear drone and feedback induced structures throughout the album, which is perhaps surprising for The Dead C in general.

The album starts off with a 20 minute long track titled ''One'' and it essentially packs some drone infused avant-garde noise rock from start to finish. These feedback laden drones are accompanid by some very distinct The Dead C'esque drumming. At some points the track is more structured while at some other points it ascends into some rather murky drones with occasional drumming. ''Two'' pretty much follows the same pattern, but also packs a more clear-cut catchy rhythm section and some fine and heavy droney noise-rock motion that in parts goes into an almost stoner/sludge kind of realm, while in other parts sounding more like feedback laden psychedelic ambience. Track number three also packs similar droney feedback laden noise rock, while moving into a more avant-garde section for the secong half of the track. ''Five'' is a track that offers some heavier slow noise-rock sounds that can almost be extended to drone doom. Well this goes on until about half-way, after which the track moves in some murky ambience, leading up to ''Four'', which continous in a similar experimental drone manner for the most part.

All in all ''Trouble'' stands out as one of the best The Dead C releases of recent years, and as one of the best albums of 2016 in general. As is also the case with Brainbombs, then it often baffles me that people around the world don't all listen to The Dead C. In a sane world this would be the case no doubt.
