Hearing new music from Green Day did not seem possible a few years ago. After the explosive 'American Idiot' and the broadway play that adapted the album it all looked as if Green Day kind of hung up their guitars and called it a day. With the release of 'Bang Bang' and their new album Revolution Radio former Green Day fans can only hope for the future. As music becomes more predominated by pop and mainstream avenues, Green Day honestly kind of stuck out as that gangrene thumb sticking to the masses. While the band have become fathers, it still goes to show that a garage band skater kid with a mess of hair and an opnion about the world is still going strong.
I've already heard numerous outlets saying negative and positive things. However, it's Green Day, a band destined to rattle a few radio stations and break through the pop gap. For the consistent gig attendees who hit the rail and thrash about, Green Day graces the radio waves with 'Bang Bang' aimed at a younger audience. Because face it, today bands are playing to the kids and teenagers looking for a way to grow up. By adding a bit of political material, satire and a need to rage....Green Day evolve their sound for a new generation ready to take some form of action. More importantly 'Bang Bang' issues out the calling card of mass shootings that have happened around the world. And it takes one band to sound off the alarm that an ever growing debate about one of the most infamous issues in the world, needs to be examined. Especially for the younger generation that is growing up in the thick of it.
