Jesscia93 is a fascinating French one-man band who plays a mixture of noisy psychedelic rock, krautrock, post-punk and shoegaze. Saying all this the band can also be labeled by the simple noise rock banner to a certain degree. While Jessica93 has released quite a few albums, then the best among those is perhaps ''Rise''. An album that was released back in 2014.
The first track on this fine album is titled ''Now'' and it essentially packs some rather noisy post-punk in a mid-tempo repetitive pattern. The second track ''Asylum'' ups the tempo a bit, but still moves in the post-punk realm, while flirting with psych rock and noise rock. ''Karmic Debt'' can also be spotted on the post-punk terrain, but also has some garage rock elements to it, whereas ''White Noise'' packs some repetitive drums and a bassline, while also featuring some psych guitars with a bit of an Eastern feel to it. The fifth track on the album is titled ''Surmatants'', which means ''dance of death'' in my native Estonian language, so it is of no surprise that the title is an intriguing one for me. Musically this track however also kicks ass, and packs a catchy noise-rock/stoner bassline and drums of equal caliber, while also featuring some eerie psych guitars throughout. The sixth track ''Inertia'' moves in the post-punk realm once more, while the last track ''Uranus'' packs a fine mixture of post-punk, noise rock and psych and is perhaps the best track on this album for my taste.
All in all ''Rise'' is a pretty good album that mixes different complimentary genres and does it rather well. The post-punk feel tends to be the dominating factor on this album though for the most part. Nevertheless the album is definitely worth checking out for anyone who is into post-punk, noise rock, psych rock and any mixture of these.
