There's something about old people singing rock 'n' roll lyrics that bothers me. … Those are not my words but Grace Slick’s (the magical voice of Jefferson Airplane), intended as a criticism of her colleagues from the Fleetwood Mac, and generally to all “old” rockers. You could say she was right for lots of them, but some “old dogs” surely proved her wrong. Well, Mick Jagger is the obvious choice, but David Bowie is who I had in mind for this article. I made the introduction with Slick’s comment on old rockers because the video you’re watching in the background (press the unmute button, if you haven’t already) is shot in Madison Square Garden on Bowie’s 50th birthday. Joining him on stage is Robert Smith, the eccentric vocalist of The Cure, another super-famous band from Great Britain. Smith is an icon by himself and has a very charismatic personality on stage. When you see and hear these two excellent musicians together, it’s a real spectacle.
As I’ve already mentioned in some previous articles, David Bowie’s live shows are what fascinates me the most. The band sounds impeccable, the sound is perfect, the light is also perfect… It’s a rarity to see someone perform so damn good… there it is, I’ve said it like a cowboy... time to leave you with Robert and David now… goodbye!
