Well, what can I do – I just love that retro sound that became popular again at the beginning of the new millennium. The Dead Weather are kind of a supergroup, but the main star is not fronting the band. Yeah, I’m thinking of Jack White, who is singing from behind the drum set. But Alison Mosshart is doing a hell of a good job for both of them. Dean Fertita is playing the guitar as if he came out of the late sixties and Jack Lawrence complements the sound just as any good bassist should. What I like most about these “neo-retro” bands (oh my, that’s a contradiction there) is that they sound like no one particular. It’s just like the whole history of rock music was embedded in their sound, their thoughts, and their attitude. And it probably is. “Horehound” is the debut album of The Dead Weather and it announced another great band emerging on the scene. The album was recorded at Third Man Studios during a three-week session in January 2009 and released in June the same year. Enjoy!
