Melbourne indie-rockers The Temper Trap (Dougy Mandagi, Jonathon Aherne, Toby Dundas and Joseph Greer) have yet to recreate the inescapable allure of their 2009 breakthrough hit "Sweet Disposition", but their recently released single from their upcoming album Thick as Thieves (2016, forthcoming) certainly comes close enough. As The Guardian's Alexis Petridis notes, The Temper Trap has fallen short when attempting to make music about 'serious' real-world issues like the London riots, but excel when leaving aside "pretensions to high seriousness and aiming for the pop jugular".
Co-written with regular Lana Del Rey collaborator Justin Parker, "Fall Together" certainly aims for mainstream radio airwaves, excelling by avoiding any explication of 'serious' thematic content and successfully delivering a head-banging, fist-pumping, stadium crowd-rousing, feel-good powerhouse anthem. As drummer and vocalist Toby Dundas notes, "The new album is filled with hope, raw energy and a passion that brought us back to the early days” - and this raw, passionate, uplifting energy is certainly palpable by virtue of Mandagi's rousing, evocative vocal delivery:
'Out on the streetsOur colors bleedNobody speaks to meHere I am, give me something I could followSo I can find my way out from the shadowsRaise your voice cause the time is now or neverAnd if we have to fall, we'll fall together'
