Skeppet - Phase 3

Skeppet are an interesting Danish band that venture in the realm of psychedelic rock, electronic music and space rock influenced ambient drones. Their album ''Phase 3'' was released by the renowned American label Not Not Fun back in 2014, and that should in itself point towards the quality of this Danish band.

The album features 4 tracks, with one of them being a massive 20 minute long krautrock and space rock influenced psychedelic drone epic. This track is titled ''Den Nya Kusten'' and packs in itself a thoroughly mesmerizing krautrock journey, reminding the legendary Pärson Sound in its captivating repetitive kraut that slowly ascends and evolves, while always retaining its original repetitive mantra like essence throughout. Of course Skeppet in ''Den Nya Kusten'' flirt with electronic music a lot more than Pärson Sound ever did. Nevertheless there is a similarity in their approach when this particular track in concerned. A truly awesome 20 minute journey that also reminds Aidan Baker's Caudal in ways of gradual ascendence and transcendence. The other tracks however aren't as great as this particular piece. The second track Solskeppet packs some ambience that seems almost like a filler track for a krautrock head like me. The third track ''Popol'' puts forth some really upbeat kraut and/or psychedelic rock, and the exactly same thing can really be said about the last track ''Ytan''.

All in all this is a pretty interesting release, and while one of the tracks clearly surpasses all the others, then it is also a pretty massive krautrock epic in itself. The album is worth listening to due to this track alone.
