This is one of the best covers in history. Chris Cornell managed to give this song a completely new life and a deeper meaning. The lyrics that talk of a lover-boy’s saga, sound much more convincing when Cornell sings them with his raspy low-pitched voice. The song arrangement is totally different also. Chris Cornell is accompanied only by himself, playing an acoustic guitar, but he performs the song with a wide dynamic range that additionally emphasizes the lyrics. Actually, the lyrics were the primary source of inspiration when he was working on the arrangement. In an talking about this cover, he said: “I liked "Billie Jean" because it had that little keyboard line in it, which I thought I could turn into an electric guitar line. And it was just embarrassingly awful. When I started reading the lyrics, I realized it's a lament, not a dance track. His moon walking and the video as well, as just the bass line and the beat, took precedence over the meaning. The lyrics are brilliant, and the way that the way the lyrics are put together. The story isn't spoon-fed to you, it's poetic.” This version was recorded live, somewhere in Sweden. Chris Cornell also recorded a for his second solo album “Carry On” (2007) with a band, but that version  is also slow and emotional, unlike the original’s funky beat.

by Michael Jackson. It is the second single from his sixth solo album “Thriller” (1982). It was written and composed by Jackson and produced by him and Quincy Jones.
