Atomic Simao are a great space rock/psychedelic rock band from Ukraine. Their first album Nodo came out back in 2013 and made an instant impact as it succesfully and rather innovatively mixed the elements of space rock, psychedelic rock and electronic music in parts as well. The key elements in Atomic Simao's music are reptitive basslines, along with echo driven spaced out jamming, which sometimes take a more ambient nature as well. This comes perhaps best apparent in tracks such as Voodoo Chillum, Dancing Emptyness and Asteroid Masterpiece, which are all some wanderings in drug induced outer space realms. All the tracks also pack some near danceable drums, that push the tracks forward into the spaced out journeys that they are. Most of them quite mellow in their nature though. All in all Nodo is a great psychedelic space rock album and definitely one of the best psych rock releases of 2013.

Their later ablums such as Sphyro and Poly also continue in similar patterns and structures of psychedelic space rock jamming, while also being somewhat different to their great debut album Nodo. Poly happens to be an album packing different versions and remixes of a track titled PolyBrothers, while Sphyro continues more in Nodo's direction. The most notable track off Sphyro possibly being a track titled simply 13. The keywords here again are repetitive psychedelic space rock patterns along with some really fine avant-garde sax jamming on top of it all. One could say this album moves more towards psychedelic acid-jazz, while still retaining the core of what is Atomic Simao. This comes out well while listening to Descending and Sensorial Deprivation.

All in all Atomic Simao keep on producing some great echo driven psychedelic space rock jams that flow as smoothly as an infinite cosmic river. One could just forget himself listening to tracks like Voodoo Chillum, Dancing Emptyness, 13 or Descdending and wake up hours later from the mesmarizing flow of this astrounding space rock. Definitely a band worth more attention than they have gotten so far. Probably thanks to hailing from the Eastern European periphery.
