Assemble Head In Sunburst Sound are a great psychedelic rock band from San Francisco, who have released a number of great albums through the years. The reason why Assemble Head In Sunburst Sound stand out among a huge number of psych rock bands, is that they produce an interesting mix of mellow and dreamy neo psych together with some heavier yet melodic fuzzy psychedelic rock. One could even say some of their albums have a sort of a bluesy feel to them. Not in the sense of having blues influences, but bringing about the feel of blues and melancholy in their ascending fuzz filled pysch rock. All of this is in a kind of a dreamy stoner atmosphere. That is especially true about their latest album Manzanita, while it is also true about their earlier songs like Summon The Varding or Gemini 9, as well as with the album When Sweet Sleep Returned.
The good thing about Assemble Head In Sunburst Sound is however that they have and equal amount of fine heavier melodic stoner rock/psychedelic rock, with some fine low end basslines and catchy juicy riffs. Extremely catcy riffs with the most tasty of melodies along with some really fitting psych rock style or neo-pysch vocals. Tracks like Mosquito Lantern and Occult Roots from Ekranoplan are prime examples of mixing heavier almost doomy psych feel with mellower melodies. This is all accompanied by some fine psych rock jamming in parts as well. While Ekranoplan is a great album, then their best album might be When Sweet Sleep Returned, where tracks like Drunken Leaves and Clive and Lyre just blow you away with their awesomely perfect melodic yet noisy and fuzz filled psych rock.
All in all Assemble Head In Sunburst Sound are a must for anyone who likes some fine heavy stoner rock riffs mixed with truly great melodic psychedelia and neo-psych. They mix all the previous in a completely perfect manner.
