A Raw and Honest Story

The suburban Chicago songbird has released her winter follow-up to its summer sibling Virgo Tendencies Part 1. The triple threat superstar's previous efforts have been unfortunately muddled with mediocre production and generic lyrics that have undermined her obvious talent. Virgo Tendencies Part 2 is the break in this unfortunate chain.

Part 2 illustrates a story, and maintains it with her adopted trap/R&B sound. The EP starts with the racy "Hooked", a confident and seductive ballad that stands apart from its Part 1 counterparts. This is the part of the story in which the protagonist seduces a lover who is already engaged in a relationship. The title song "Virgo Tendencies" hearkens to the days of boombap neo-soul. The two lovers continue on their emotional rollercoaster through three through five. ”Money Can’t Buy” and “Vitamin D” may be the only weak points of the EP but even these two maintain the story and consistency of the EP’s sound. “FYG” is the climax of the story, where the final primal encounter between the two lovers takes place in spite of the love interest’s girlfriend.

The true standout track is "Let Go". The neo-soul kissed trap ballad is the true showcase for Palmer's vocals. This is the sorrowful goodbye song, where the protagonist has finally realized that the relationship must end. In the final track, “Grew From You”, the protagonist realizes her mistakes, celebrating her growth from the situation.

Overall, while not her best, Virgo Tendencies Part 2 is a stronger effort than its predecessor. KeKe Palmer manages to tell a complete story through consistent trap/R&B production over a space of twenty minutes. The lyrics, while not groundbreaking or moving, are an improvement.
