Not One to Jump the Gun

Many musical artists do their best to find their footing in an industry that can be very competitive especially when you want to create and present your own style, design, or signature. Every now and then you get a singer that seems to sound like another popular musical artist but provides just enough originality to give it her or his own sound.  That’s when a new superstar is born.  Naomi Pilgrim fits this story well and an original style and sound she does definitely bring for her listeners.

The Swedish-Barbadian artist knew from an early age that she could sing.  The thought of becoming a singer was obviously there but she decided to wait and not be another teenage singer in the spotlight.  Her wait has allowed her to develop and polish her skills in singing and has already gained her a spot on a few stages as a backup singer.  Such gigs include being a backup singer for Lykke Li and Agnes Carlsson.  Her style and sound mixes r&b and electro-pop.  It ultimately brought her to producing her own single “No Gun”.  Furthermore, she released her self-titled EP, Naomi Pilgrim, that gives her listeners a 3-track EP.

Her soulfully smooth vocal sound has brought many of her interviewers to ask who her influences are.  Just like many other musicians and singers, she has too many on her list to state definitively.  She has mentioned Sade and Lauryn Hill being among a few singers she had listened to a lot while growing up.  This obviously being just to state a few and the latter being an artist some are saying she sounds similar to.

Her music is available out there and I do suggest listening to them.  Although her list of songs may be short as of now, I am sure to be hearing more music production and play by her in the near future.  Her amazing sound and style is just too good to let fade away.  I’m sure we all can’t wait for the next track or an expected debut album.

As she has described, a song to be about life and positive thinking, here’s “No Gun” by Naomi Pilgrim (Live Studio Session):
