#tbt Kylie Minogue - Body Language

Kylie Minogue was just a teenager when she became famous in her Australia. As the years have gone by, her fame was taking off to the new level, and it peaked in 2002 with the album Fever. Whether you love her or not, it is inevitable to accept the fact that Light Years and Fever made her one of the biggest pop icons in the world. Massive hit Can't Get You Out Of My Head was one of the most played songs of the new millenium. Whenever you would play radio and turn the TV on, the song would would inevitably be on.

After stream of epic hits, it came one album that I am still not sure what to think of. Body Language was holding a burden of its predecessor. And while its predecessor spawned numerous hit singles, Body Language instantly seemed less interesting. Although Kylie was still rocking her own style, songs were not as close as good as they were before. Body Language was mostly sleazy, with forgettable tracks barren of melody. It seemed like it was made quickly, just so that her loyal fans, burnt out from anticipation, could go and get it.

Despite what I have just said, Body Language includes two brilliant songs, maybe even the best songs in Kylie's catalogue. Slow served as the first single, and it went to become Kylie's signature song. Don't get me started on that epic video on the pool where Kylie is surrounded by dancers on towels. Slow was followed by Red Blooded Woman, an upbeat electro pop tune on the trace of Can't Get You Out Of My Head. Everything else on the record seemed like the beginning of the era in which singles are more important than albums. Standards we got used to from Kylie were not achieved on Body Language. For some other singer, this album would be average, but as we are talking about the icon herself, it represented a giant leap backwards. However, my throwback is not unreasonable. Slow and Red Blooded Woman deserve to be refreshed in our memories. And maybe Chocolate as well.
