Raw Kylie In Retrospective

In 2012, Kylie was hungry for the impact Adele had made on the world and decided to follow her steps. If your are a cynic, than this is what you might think about her The Abbey Road Sessions.

For the rest of us, it was good to hear that Minogue managed to locate her hits and deliver them in a traditional orchestrated manner. She captured her essence and transferred it into something that does not sound like a kitchz. Orchestar gave the album minimalistic colors. It was like seeing a tribe girl wearing a simple, but undoubtly gorgeous dress, with decent and beautiful piece of jewelry.

Kylie made a step backward, in a sense that she approached the realization of the project traditionally. It was that very tradition that made the project successful. Meaning, Kylie made two steps forward in 2012 and recorded sessions that turned out to be her best effort yet.

Minogue accomplished a stellar dyamic, with arrangemnts being a cherry on the top. Sexy Australian diva was guided by The less is more philosophy, which made her voice sound like she is whispering something sensual in your ear. Kylie presents pop music as it should be – delicate, playful, sexy, sang and played. The new song Flower was also a great touch to The Abbey Road Sessions.

Truth to be told, some of the songs did not profit from the retro approach. Megahit Can’t Get You Out Of My Head sounds like a seasonal hodgepodge of some second-rated pop singer, while The Locomotion sounds like a Serbian rock group from the 80s. Also, Kylie’s voice can not pull off big emotional moments. She is not a powerhouse and there are few places where it shows as a huge flaw.

Still, there are other assets that amplify Kylie’s sensual and delicate singing. All The Lovers, On The Night Like This and Hand On Your Heart are perfect for almost any context you can think of – a bed, the beach, the forest, party… My favorite is definitely Slow, bursting from sexuality in the vocal.

In my opinion, The Abbe y Road Sessions showcased that Minogue deserves the throne of pop music, more than any other pop females, including Madonna
