The Ultimate Love Song 'You Know What I Mean' By Cults

We are in the midst of summer. Some places are experiencing heat waves that shouldn't. But, this summer has upped the ante this early in the game. Yet, summer has thrown in the fire and songs from the past are bound to pop up. You Know What I Mean by Cults is a stationary summer staple song. If you disagree, then you've never been on a road trip (with your passenger is tripping) as Cults comes on. An instant transformation of old school girl group serenade plays. Allowing the process to dissolve all your problems. So that's why girl groups or girl doo-wop groups were so popular? These singers understood love to the hottest temperature. Then in return fed every teenage heart to the wolves. Tears may be shed, hearts could break, and down the line a light at the end of the tunnel peers through.

You Know What I Mean holds an escape hold on my teenage years. So with the connection, it would only be a matter of time before the song would resurface. Honestly, Cults still capture the essence of 'running wild' completely without fail. While Lana Del Rey is singing love songs to various degrees, there was one thing Del Rey never held. Conviction. The kind of conviction which comes out as a scream while singing. As tears roll down your face, kind of conviction.

This track is on numerous mixes, and after rediscovering instantly went to the top of my Spotify playlist. The only question that keeps coming back unanswered is, why are there not more songs like this, out there? What happened during this period of music where wholesome songwriting felt pure? Well, trends come and go. Although the whole girl group trend should make a comeback, and hopefully sooner rather than later.
