Ciao Adios, I'm done!

I know that, so far, I have not been all too positive about Anne-Marie. I think I called her a Drew Barrymore look-alike that sounds like Rihanna and she hadn’t really worked up an identity of her own. This was in reference to her debut single. And I still hadn’t heard anything really better since, including the massive featuring she did on “Rockabye”, but I have to admit to it now. I love “Ciao Adios”. I think she has a winner there.

The partial staccato singing on the verses make them sound very fresh and unpredictable, and I think that she has found her style in this. It reminds me of how someone taught me to prepare for recording sessions. I was taught to write the lyrics down and put a check in every spot I wanted to take a breath. It was supposed to prepare you for the story telling aspect of a song and you were supposed to find logical places in the story (lyrics) to breath in. I’m glad Anne-Marie has kicked that rule out and created a new interpretation.

Even though the topic has nothing that references to summer at all, “Ciao Adios” reminds me of summer days due to its music. It’s got a great hook and chorus, and the very necessary musical intervals in today’s pop music.

Because Anne-Marie always reminds me of something or someone else (her performance of a Spice Girls song, recently, did it again too. She soooo sounded like Selah Sue), I couldn’t help but think of the days when europop had its high times. There’s something about this song. It’s most likely to do with the lyrics of the chorus. They are simple, but effective and to the point. There are a few people I’d encountered over the years that I could’ve sung this about.

Following “Rockabye”, I think “Ciao Adios” will be her big break. It can only get bigger now. It is now or never, do or die, for her at this point, and I foresee a great future from here on in. That’s all I have to say about it. Ciao Adios, I’m done.

Still coming to her own

In the business, we like artists that come into the studio with a clear idea of what they want and who can give a reference to another track…
