Joe Jonas is Moving On With DNCE

The Jonas Brothers are really going places now. It seems like the disbandment had indeed been a blessing in disguise. While Nick Jonas’s latest album has not only done well in numbers but also has solidified his stance as a solo artist, Joe Jonas has kind of moving on to better things with his new band. We’re talking about DNCE – a pop quartet that has been giving people a taste of their piece of cake lately. Of course, none of is completely oblivious to their number, “Cake by the Ocean” at this moment. The song has been grabbing eyeballs and interests with its crazily bright video and unusual lyrics. But, we are still wondering is this the end of Joe’s solo career or is this new band just another gimmick to re-launch his solo career. Does the group indeed perform as a band because the videos have been suggesting too much of face time for Joe Jonas? Is it just a backing band for Joe masquerading as a pop group?

Well, my first impression of the band was something like that. However as I delved a little deeper and gave their mini album “Swaay” a chance- things seem a little more promising here. The band consisting of JinJoo Lee on guitars, Cole Whittle on bass, Jack Lawless who had been associated with the Jonas Brothers for long, plays the drum while Joe is indeed the frontman. Right from his Jonas Brothers days it is evident that Joe has a strong presence as a frontman, but DNCE does have its own persona. They also sound distinctively different from Jonas Brothers incorporating funk guitars into their pop sound. They also list Sly and the Family Stone and Earth Wind and Fire as their influence which explains their sound quite a bit.

DNCE has a certain quirk about them that seeps through mostly in their song lyrics. (They actually have a song called “Toothbrush”!)They are also setting a good example with their videos. But whether or not they have the capability to cut the clutter – it might be too early to judge. For now it’s just safe to say that the Jonas Bro made a good move with this one!
